Who these tools are for

These calculators are built for home-scale keepers, the family with a few dairy goats, a rabbit hutch in the garden, or a potbelly pig in the yard, rather than for commercial farms. The maths and averages are standard across the livestock world, but the guidance is pitched at pet and hobby owners who want clear, practical answers.

Gestation at a Glance

Each species has a predictable pregnancy length, so a known breeding date gives an accurate due date. Use the quick reference below, then open the matching calculator for an exact date and stage guide.

Egg Incubation at a Glance

Hatching eggs instead? Poultry incubate rather than gestate, and each type has its own incubation length. Use the quick reference below, then open the Bird Egg Incubation Calculator to turn your set date into hatch, lockdown, and candling dates.

🐴 Feeding a Horse at a Glance

Horses should eat roughly 1.5 to 2.5 percent of their body weight in forage and feed each day, with 2 percent a common starting point. For a 1,000 lb horse that is about 20 lb of hay a day. The Horse Feed Calculator works out daily hay and grain by weight, per-feeding amounts, and bales per month.

Frequently Asked Questions About Homestead Pets

Gestation, weight, and care for goats, rabbits, and mini pigs

What counts as a homestead pet?

We use it to mean the animals that backyard and hobby keepers raise as part-pet, part-productive: goats, rabbits, mini or potbelly pigs, horses, and poultry. These tools are built for that home-scale keeper rather than for large commercial operations.

How long are goats, rabbits, and pigs pregnant?

Goats carry for about 150 days (145 to 155), rabbits for about 31 days (28 to 33), and pigs for about 114 days, the classic 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days (111 to 115). Each species has its own gestation calculator here that turns a breeding date into a due date.

Do I need a scale to check my animal's weight?

Not always. Our goat weight tool estimates weight from a tape measure using the heart-girth method, the rabbit tool compares your rabbit to healthy ranges by breed, and the mini-pig tool projects adult size from age and current weight. A scale is still ideal for precise medicine dosing.

Are these calculators a substitute for a vet?

No. They are planning and monitoring tools that give reliable averages, but every animal is an individual. For pregnancy confirmation, difficult births, dosing, and any health concern, work with a vet who treats livestock or exotic pets.
